MEET WEN-YU
Co-Founder

I am from Kinmen, Taiwan, but was brought up predominantly in Thailand. I graduated with an Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science (and a minor in International Studies) from Mahidol University, Thailand. After that, I promptly ditched plans to become a medical doctor and opted instead to study for a Master’s degree in Environmental Policy at the University of Oxford. I have actively participated in debating at both institutions. I then worked for two years in education intensively, including as a teacher of Chemistry and Mathematics, and as a debate coach and lecturer in logic. Currently I am studying on a Chevening Scholarship at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

I’m an unashamed fan of youth activism, decent drip coffee, ethical volunteering, environmental responsibility, and crushing logic.

My debate resume is available upon request.

MEET JEFF
President

Jeff does not like to describe himself in first person narrative. Jeff has been elected as the first President of Taiwan Debate Union after his extensive contributions to the Taiwanese debating community.

Jeff was the best speaker in the English as Foreign Language (EFL) category at Asia's regional tournament - United Asia Debate Championship - in 2013. He was also the Champion of Korean's KIDA IV and the Chief Adjudicator of the North East Asia Open.

MEET JESSICA
Vice-President

Hi, my name is Shin-Jie Chen. I’m a junior at National Taiwan University double majoring in Law and Finance. I’ve debated for two years and now I am the vice president of Taiwan Debate Union(TWDU). My debate career started as the grand-finalist and 3rd Best Speaker in NTU tournament, and I was the EFL semi-finalist in NEAO, Semi-Finalist and 7th Best Speaker at the Summer Asian Debate Institute (ADI) tournament, Champion and 1st best speaker in pre-neao workshop, Grand-Finalist and Best Speaker at the Wenzao workshop.

A famous quote explains exactly how I feel about debate: "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get." Life is a mystery, so is the debate world. You will never know how crazy a motion can be, and what kind of teammates you will cooperate with. That’s why debate always reminds me to be open-minded, curious and humble. (Though, to be honest, I still can not stand the idea of being a vegetarian.)

MEET ANNA
Former President, WENZAO English Debating Society

My name is Anna. Born in Taiwan, grown in Taiwan, currently study in Taiwan. I graduated from Advertising Designing department of a vocational high school in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. I had never thought I would enjoy debate before I got coerced to participate in a Wenzao debate workshop two years ago. I fell in love with debate. My English communication skills improved significantly, and I became confident, friendly and open-minded. With two years of organizing and debating experience behind me, I was elected as the president of Taiwan Wenzao English Debate Society for 2012-13.  Besides debate, I am a picky foodie with a built-in “food-ar”.

MEET LILY
Former President, National Taiwan University English Debate Society

Lily is an International Business major at National Taiwan University, and will be studying at University of Southern California as an exchange student coming fall, 2013. Lily co-founded NTU English Debate Society and served as first President after she attending Wenzao's national debate workshop in early 2011, where she found herself obsessed with the grandeur of English debate. She was champion and top speaker in 2011 national tournament, 2012 NTU Cup and was Deputy Chief Adjudicator for 2012 WENZAO Invitational Tournament and 2013 NTU English Debate Open. Apart from debating, Lily was also an Assistant Chair for 2010 World Model United Nations, a Youth Ambassador to UNFCCC COP17/CMP7 in South Africa, and an English speech contest winner of Rotary Club of Taipei that gave her 7-week fantastic memory studying in Canberra, Australia.
